I'm pregnant with a boy, and my husband INSISTS his son be named George. EEEEEK! He's Greek and apparently it's a tradition that runs in the family to name your son after your father? (meaning HIS father) I don't know, but I'm not Greek at all and he says I need to respect it. Since I'm not Greek I don't see why we can't compromise and make George the middle name? He will not go for it. What do I do? I could name the middle name what I want my child to be named, and just go by that...but then that gets confusing come school time.

I really like the name Dominic..and I think Nico is a super cute nickname for it..I know he has a lot of Greek friends named Niko, so isn't it Greek enough???

Compromise with the middle name is enough. He can't force you to have it and you can't force him to ditch it so the middle name is a good compromise.

What about naming him George and a middle name that starts with G and call him GG? I don't know if you think that nicknames a little too girly for you but it could be a good compromise.

George is a good name, and if it is truely a tradition (have you seen a family tree?) I would stick with it and just give him a workable middle name.

I really like George Dominic. This is a very strong sounding name. And you can still call him Nico!

I think I might actually like this name order better than Dominic George.

However, the name is ultimately your decision. Only you know your husband well enough to know how much the name will impact your marriage. And no matter what, you can always call your son any name or nickname you choose, as you are his mother!

If you really don't like it, don't use it! You need to let him know that you both have to agree on the name, and you can make George the middle name, that is carrying on the tradition. Or George can be the first name and he could go by the middle name. Like George Dominic.
