I really like Carter (for boy or girl) and other surnames as first names. And Darrington and Anderson for boys, my husband won't go for any of those though, he like old people names (Ezra, Beula...ugh).

Yes, I LOVE Anderson, I'd name a boy that too. I also like Carter for a girl but my friends son's name is that

Have you tried looking on national name databases.
If you live in the US http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/babynames/
in the UK http://www.statistics.gov.uk/statbase/Product.asp?vlnk=15282
In Canada http://www.babynamestats.com/popular_names_canada_2008.html

It will give you an idea of what is popular and what isn't. hth
