My hubby and I are expecting a girl in August. We have a son named Dylan (Welsh for born of the sea). When I saw this name I immediately knew I wanted our girl to be named it. We came up with a list of others and they are all a little different. My mom saw our list and hated all of them! I'm not worried because of that, I don't care if people think I'm crazy. What worried me is she said I shouldn't give her a name so different that she will hate or get made fun of, but I don't see how that could happen. Do you all think I would be giving her a bad name? The name is Oceana. I haven't thought of a middle name yet, our last name is Higham. So I am open for suggestions on that to. My mom likes Kayla and Lauren which are very nice, but a little too common for my taste. My husband and I both have Marine Science degrees, so I tend towards names with ocean meanings. I think Oceana is a fine name. Kids can make fun of any name. They called me Fairyann and Crayon.

Kai (ocean, sea)

I like the name... is it pronounced o-she-anna? I also like the name Coral if you want to stay with the marine theme. if you are worried about kids teasing you could also try to spell it differently like Oshyanna or Ocianna

Hello, i actually knew a boy named Ocean, and yeah, a lot of people did make fun of him. I'm ashamed to say i was one of them (i was a kid then. Pick which ever name you want but expect some tears along the way.
P.S.- Have you thought of the name Marina, its nice and fits with the water idea.
