I think a good tip for naming you child is to imagine they could be president someday. My favorite name for a Girl is Ellanor Margaret, which I think is very presidential and I could call her Ella for short. For a boy I like Jaxon Michael, Jax for short and also very presidential.

I think a good tip is to think of yourself as having the name your child will have. Picture you, as a child, having whatever name you'll name your son/daughter. Imagine you in your teenage years, having that name. Would you like it? Would it be embarssing? Is it memorable and unique?

Some names are only good for children, and some are only good for adults. It'd be cute at first if you named your Lexi. But, as an adult, it wouldn't be the best name. Espescially if you were 65 years old and had the name Lexi. Or if your son's name was Alan. That'd be better if you were an adult, rather than being a 5 year old named Alan.

So really, just think of things in a different perspective. But most importantly, pick a name you and your family love.

I think that we as parents should think about how our child's name will fly over with other kids. You shouldn't give your baby a name that will be easily used as a way to pick on them. Think of all the people you picked on as a child and DON'T CHOOSE THOSE NAMES! lol

'A Rose By Any Other Name is Still A Rose'!
'Boys Will Be Boys and Girls Will Be Girls'

Names like Kerry and Carrie, Barry and Berry, Aaron and Erin, Ray and Rae, Danny and Dani, Marion and Marian, Chris and Kris, Nick and Nikki have been used and accepted for years.
Davis, Lincoln, Carter, Richard, Harrison, Clinton, Franklin, James, are last names, yet for years have been commonly used as first names with no problem.
Some names that were once predominantly used as masculine given names are now primarily feminine given names, including Ashley, Beverly, Carol, Evelyn, Hilary, Jocelyn, Meredith, Shirley, Sharon, and Vivian. How many of these male names would you use for your son or have used for a girl? Does the name Abby signify a male or a female to you? Did Abbie Hoffman come to mind?

We associate a name with a person we know. If I knew a boy named Kim he would as naturally come to mind as would a girl that I know as Kim.

We choose certain names for a myriad of reasons. To honor someone or because we like how it looks or sounds. Society is ever expanding and so are the choices we can make for names.

Some, not all, of the names celebrities choose for example, are truly without merit.
I am surprised at how many people make remarks about names like Poppy, Shiloh, Suri and Willow to name, but a few, and no one mentions the name Phinneaus that Julia Roberts chose for her son as being off the wall, or maybe that's just me!.
Bluebelle and Poppy are names of flowers as are Rose, Lily, Iris, Daisy, and Violet yet no one finds these names odd. Names like Ivy and Holly are fine but Willow and Rowan are deemed strange.
Rory was and is a nickname for Aurora yet others say it's a boy's name.
April, May, June and August are used as names but what about the rest of the months? Who determines that?
If you choose a mainstream name others will offer names that are more unique. If you choose a unique name you will undoubtedly be offered suggestions for choosing a mainstream name.
Aren't we a strange mix?

It all depends on trends for many. So many want either a unique looking or sounding name, Or they want something that's common and normal. Several are afraid that their child will get picked on, but they don't care that the name may be mispronounced, like Noel for a girl or Andrea which has two pronunciations. The same goes for Alicia and names like Jaden or Michel which can be used for males or females.

Some people want to mix family names with something out of the ordinary. It's not so hard but, perhaps, those people should use the family name for the middle name and the nonfamily name first. This way if it's a name that is uncommon like Theophilus or Hiram or Abraham, they don't get made fun of for an odd first name. On the hand if the first name is too be something like Theophilus or Hiram then maybe the namer should think on how they would feel with the name.

Something else are the names that have survived through history. Names like Thomas and Adam are as common today as they were three hundred years ago.

Several can use middle names as first names. Two examples are Goerge Logan and Billy Lee. They went by their middle names because it was conducive to the environment they lived in. Avoid naming them after the stranger names at least for first names. Seriously do as LifeIsGood suggested and think about if you had that name would you have been treated differently?

The most important thing though is that if your the one naming someone else it should be something you love, if your making suggestions for a child's name Remember it's there child. You may make suggestions and give your opinion on the names they've chosen, but ultimately it's their decision. If a name holds special meanig, they won't change their mind. It won't matter what you say about the name.
