Having Poopee isusues
By Mom_of2 5 Months, 1 Week Ago
My husband and I are having a terrible time potty training our 2yr. old son. Well here it is, he knows when he is wet and poopee. For some time now he has been taking off his pull up. We had him on diapers and then when we went to potty train him we went to pull ups. Plus he would take the straps off the diaper and tries to run naked. Now he just takes the pull up off and if he poops then he ends up playing in it. It gets every where, all over his toys. He takes his trucks and plays in it. We think that he thinks its mud. We are not bad parents to make any one think that we don't keep a close eye on him. It's just that we can't sit with him 24-7. We have to do things around the house to, you know keep a clean house. We don't know if this is normal or NOT. Or maybe hes acting out cause we have a new baby on the way.He has been around other kids and learn something that is totally silly but can't learn to tell us if he needs to poop. Why is is he can learn that and not to tell us when he has to go!?----What do we do and is this normal?

I have heard of putting Cheerios in the toliet and let little boys aim for them- have you tried that, or giving him treats when he goes? Have a specific treat that he likes and only give it to him when he uses the potty. Also, give him lots of praise when he goes, to make him feel like a big boy.
I heard someone else say at a daycare, the teacher painted a clown's face on the bottom of the toliet bowl with fingernail polish and used that to make them go, and it worked! (lol) Then, after they were trained, she took it off with nail polish remover. I guess you could paint other pictures, too. It sounds crazy, I guess, but whatever works.

I remember something from psychology about that, so you might want to ask your pediatrician about it. I am not exactly sure, its been a long time since psych classes;o). I would probably go for duct tape, but that is probably child abuse, just kidding!

Now, as for potty training, I taught preschool last year (second grade this year, thank God!) and there were parents who were still struggling with potty training to start 4 yr. old preschool. It is one of those things that, especially for boys, they can just be late bloomers at. That is okay, and when it clicks, it is like the lightbulb comes on for them and it works! Don't get discouraged, this is just one season of his growing up. If you are consistent, something will give sooner or later.

Also, I am a firm believer in the Cheerios in the toilet for potty-training. It works like a charm!
