I agree with you, Danzy, I think that Penelope is much better than Precious, mainly because of the teasing that she'll probably receive. Plus, while Precious definitely is very unique, it's not like they're changing her name to Emma, or Alexis, or something really popular like that.

Even if it was a miracle that my child was alive, I personally don't think I'd name them Mirakal, I think I'd use something that means miracle, although there aren't too many, such as Nasia, Nesiah, Alazne, or Pelia. Just my opinion though!

Ummm, i actually know some who's name is Precious, and none of her friends made fun of her when she was young or when that movie came out..if anything i think kids would make fun of a name like Penelope.

Danzy, how old is this Precious girl? Personally I really prefer the name Precious compared to Penelope. I was really sad reading your entry, having such a condescending, antaganistic tone towards a innocent child like you did. Hope all family members are more supportive than you seem to be.

I have nothing against her, I love her, she's a great kid, doesn't mean I have to like her name does it? She's 7 months old, a complete doll and now with a good name that will age well. I love her no matter what her name is though, don't get me wrong, I would have loved her if her name was McSprakuleighpants or whatever. I'm just very proud of her parents right now.

How could she possibly have been labelled as "a brat" by you at only 7 months old, or for you to differentiate her character with her name being Precious. How judgmental of you.
