So I really have to share this.

Yesterday my husband and I were at Wal-Mart and our cashier's name was Precious.

We walked out of the store and the first thing he did was look at me and say 'You know that guy on Lord of the Rings and that part where he goes My Precious My Precious. Yeah... I totally wanted to do that but I knew you would yell at me. So I didn't.' That's my husband lol.

But anyway, I HAD to share.

I agree with you, Danzy. Precious is a really ridiculous name. There's no way around it. It is a completely undignified name for a child, and especially for an adult, to have.

It's not even a name.. it's a word. And yes, I know some words are names, but there's a reason for that.. history, etymology, and such. Precious is not a name.

Penelope, on the other hand, is gorgeous. She can be Penny, Nelly, Lola, or just plain Penelope. She has so many options here. Precious is so easy to tease, and it's so trashy IMO.

I see nothing wrong with the fact that the original poster disliked the name and said it to the parents, or that she's writing it here. You can love someone and absolutely hate their name. I, too, would never name my child Precious or Miracle, no matter what the situation.. a name that meant one of the two, yes, but naming a kid Precious or Miracle or Darling or Heart or Love or something.. they all, honestly, seem really trashy to me. It doesn't change how I feel about the person if they have the name, but their names give off on awful first impression to me, and I thoroughly believe they'd all be teased for it.

Just my opinion, of course.
