By JaimeMae 3 Months, 2 Weeks Ago
Ok so my cousins name is Catelyn.
I go to school with a Caitlin,Katelyn,and a Kaitlyn.
I babysit a girl named Kaitlin.
My friends middle name is Caitlen.
And my brothers ex girlfriend's name was Caitlyn.

Over 30 years ago, the original and only spelling at that time was Caitlin.
According to wikipedia:
"Caitlin, also spelled in numerous other ways, including Caightlin, Caitlyn, Caytelyn, Kaitlin, Kaitlyn, Kate Lynn, Katelynn, Kaytlynn, Caitlynn, Katelin, Katelyn, and Katlynne,[1] is a given name for a female. The name has an Irish origin and means "pure".[2] Caitlin was originally an Irish Gaelic form of Catherine. The original pronunciation in Gaelic was similar to Kathleen and sometimes more like /koyt-hleen/[1] or /Cotch-LEEN/[3] but in the later 20th century the pronunciation of "Kate-lynn" was commonly used in English speaking countries, and led to the numerous respellings. According to a name etymology website Katherine (from which Caitlin ultimately derives)[4] could also be derived from Hecate, a Greek goddess. [5]"

Hope that clears it up for you!

You are correct flutura, as stated in the posting above, it's Gaelic pronounciation was similar to "Kathleen and sometimes more like /koyt-hleen/[1] or /Cotch-LEEN/[3] but in the later 20th century the pronunciation of "Kate-lynn" was commonly used in English speaking countries.

Thru the years many names of forign origin lose their origninal sound, with so many different languages, and accents.
Even a name so simple as Scarlett, in many southern states in the U.S., would be pronounced "Scah-lett".

Names are indeed interesting and should be fun , yet serious when we are passing these names to our children.
