My daughter has mine and my hubbys mothers names as her middle name. I plan to use some form of my stepmothers name when or if we have another girl. But i don't think it's a neccesity to use family names. Either way it is your child. You could make significant woman in your familys name into a more masculant way????
Hope this helped

I'm considering giving my niece/nephew the middle name Gee. It is my grandmother's maiden name, and I really admire the strength of the women on that side of the family. It isn't really meant to be a first time, but I enjoy it, and I think it has a good story.

I don't have family names for my kids technically. (well the son im pregnant with will be) But all my kids names have something to do with the family. Jacob and Walker are english names for family names, Lauren is female for Laurent which is a family name Helen is short for Helena (Greek i know but sis' middle name) and Holden is a family name.

When we were expecting our son, we had a name that we both liked and it did happen to be a name of someone in my husband's family from long ago, but my husband also got out his family history book, and we looked at names of grandfathers and greatgrandfathers and men from his family, and we found some we liked and decided to use his great-grandfather's name for our son's middle name, Anderson, because we liked it alot. And it just gives special meaning, too. If we have a girl, we will be using Caroline for her first name, because that was my sister's middle name, which was choosen by my grandmother and my mom, who have all 3 passed away, so it has very special meaning. I like using family names if they are names you really like.
