By Karen Jeanne 2 Years, 6 Months Ago From what I hear, it's normal. But I personally have no idea, sorry. My first should be here any day now and I'm more scared of breastfeeding than I am of labor! Good Luck, I hope it gets better.

Re:OMG In Need of Breastfeeding help By MorgannsMommy 2 Years, 6 Months Ago No, it is not normal to have that much pain. Call a lactaition consultant or the hospital or your pediatrician so the can help you get the baby to latch on properly. It sounds like he is just sucking on the nipple and not the breast. toutch his bottom lip with your nipple, causing him to open up really wide and then insert the breast, so that his mouth covers as much of the breast as possible.
Good Luck and hang in there.

Re:OMG In Need of Breastfeeding help By Brandi*Nicole 2 Years, 6 Months Ago My baby was born on the 15th and I'm also breast feeding. My lactation counselor told me that the first 10 - 15 seconds should feel that way but then the pain should subside----if the baby is correctly latched on. otherwise, it will be very painful and you can even get blisters on your nipples. just have someone show you how to get him to latch on correctly and once youve done that its actually a relaxing experience. as far as them being sore after he's finished, they do make a type of lotion specifically made to be put on the nipples of a breast feeding mother after each feeding. its safe for the baby and it makes a huge difference.
