Is not sending thank you notes the norm these days
By Alisamber 4 Months, 1 Week Ago
Hi, all! Just wondering if this is "the new thing to do"---to NOT send thank you notes for wedding gifts, baby shower gifts, etc. I've just noticed over the last few years, that it seems people just don't seem to be sending them out. I was always taught that you always, definitely send thank yous to everyone for every gift and even within three months, maybe you could get by with 6 months. Curious if this is society deteriorating, or possibly a "better way" since we all know we're all thankful and this saves each other time or something. I don't get offended easily, but I'm wondering if it's just me giving very poor gifts (which I don't think they were bad, of course) or something, since I can remember in the last few years a couple of folks not sending a note for a baby gift, one not sending a note when I took her a meal, and maybe one not sending a note for a wedding gift. Ultimately, I guess I don't care. I did give them a gift because I really wanted to help them out and be their friend. But it is just clashing with how I was raised and makes me curious and slightly paranoid!

Personally, I think if they are right there when I open a gift and I can thank them personally, there is no reason for a thank you card. I mean, I would much rather hear someone say thankyou than get it scribbled on a piece of cardstock. If the person isn't there to get a private thanks, then yes they get a thank you card. Not an e-card either. Take the time to scribble on some cardstock.

I grew up writing thank you notes for Christmas and b-day gifts...my kids will be doing the same.

Now a days, I usually just say thank you in person or write an email. If it's something more formal...like for my bridal shower and wedding I wrote thank you cards.

My mom just has us call or E-mail. She used to push the thank you card thing, but now she calls and E-mails too.

People who have good manners do still write thank you notes.
