First time pregnant, but still in school
By daniklic 6 Months, 3 Weeks Ago
I am currently about 6 weeks pregnant, but I am still in college. Fortunately, I will graduate in June. But during the time before my graduation, I probably will have to put in a lot of energy in finishing off my school work. I am afraid that I will often have to sleep late. But I am also concerned that my lack of sleep might affect the baby's development. Will it affect the baby if I don't sleep 8 hours every day?

Also, I am Chinese. According to my Chinese family and friends, they all suggest me not to eat certain things, such as water melon, or drink tea. It is kind of confusing when people here don't seem to have as much restriction. I am just wondering if anyone can give me good suggestion on my food choice.

Thanks!

Yes, you need your sleep and you must be sleepy, because you are pregnant. You will be ok without 8 hours, but do your best to take short naps when you can. You do not want to run yourself down and then get some other illness. AS for the food, the things my doctor advised me against are deli meats, unpasteurized cheeses (soft cheese), alcohol (of course), tuna fish (you can have a little, actually, but don't make it part of your every day diet) and caffeine (like in the tea your family doesn't want you to drink). Keep taking prenatal pills every single day and get to the doctor, if you haven't called for an appointment. Of course, your doctor will answer any and all questions you have about your pregnancy, and advise you about diet. Good luck to you.
