I have had an epidural and for me it did not hurt. My doctor let me know when the needle was going in and to hold still. I think for me I was also having a contractions at the same time that he was doing the epidural that I was focus on the contractions.

Have you looked into alternative pain medication during child birth?

Okay, I have no experience in this area, but I am deeply afraid of needles. Unfortunately, I had to have blood drawn once a month for a long time because of a medical condition. After passing out in the doctor's office about 6 times, and it getting so bad that I passed out visiting a friend in the hospital, a nurse finally explained why we get dizzy. It is very simple, we don't breathe normally when we get near needles. We take deep breaths and hold our breath and lock our knees because we are nervous, and it makes it much worse than normal. If you can focus on breathing normally, it will be much easier. I have heard that the pain is so unbearable that it can scare even the most fearful of needles into begging for it.

My best friend was in the same situation as u. She did get the epidural and survived! It didn't hurt too much for her. I hope you find it ok!

you won't even notice getting the epidural. trying to curl yourself around a pillow and your belly into a little ball while you're having contractions will pretty much take all of your concentration. You can't see the needle or anything the doctor is doing so that takes away from any fear as well.Besides the fact that it will give you some relief makes it worth it. You could just try going without it. Also, not to scare you, but you will get an IV at some point upon entering the hospital, it's necessary for fluids, and makes it easier for the doctor to give you any meds you may need. Discuss a possible plan on how to deal with everything with your doctor, and try and relax.
