Effects of having low aminotic fluids early
By Mrs.Brown 1 Month, 3 Weeks Ago
My fluids has been low since the end of my first trimester.I'm now 29wks pregnant and they're saying that my babies lungs aren't developed and if she was given oxygen after delivery she still wouldn't make it or she would be still born. The doctor says that the surfactant(liquid that coats the inside of the lungs and keeps them open) hasn't started forming yet, which i read should start making about 26 to 34wks. I read that this occurs only in premature babies it's called respiratory distress syndrome and ways it could be treated like given a steriod to speed the lung maturity up,but my doctor says that it wouldn't help me,so what should i do should i seek other advice from another doctor?Help i'm scared to death i have already suffered one miscarriage 2yrs.ago

I'm not going to pretend to understand all of that technical stuff but I do know that most babies born at 28 weeks have a 96% chance at survival. SO if you can just keep that baby in for a week or two more I'm sure you'll be ok. And of course you should seek the opinion of a high-risk doctor. It sounds like your Doc. didn't explain things to you to a point where you are comfortable, so why not take a day to write down all of your questions and concerns and make another appointment to ask them. Also ask for a referal to a high risk doctor.

I'm not sure about your case but i was told that i had to much amniotic fluid and after my baby was born at 40 weeks they said they had made a mistake and he was just a really big baby (10 pounds). I would definetly go and see another doctor (maybe a specialist) and try not to panic.
Best of luck with everything.
