I've been having horrible heartburn, and it actually feels like I'm being stabbed with an ice pike as opposed to the burning sensation. I'm about 36 weeks along, and my dr told me to take tums (I've been eating them like candy) and that it would probably be like this up until delivery.

Anyways I was just wondering has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it? or are tums the only thing you can take during pregnancy?

My doctor told me to eat "Granny Smith" apples when I get heartburn. There is a special enzyme in the granny smith apple, that neutralizes the acid in your stomach. I guess it is what makes the apple sour, that actually counterbalances the acid.

Try it, and you will not be disappointed. I promise. Peel it, then slowly eat the slices. You will feel the acid cool, before you finish the entire apple. Trust me on this one pouse.

I would imagine I would get the same effect if I just slowly took bites out of it right? I prefer not to cut apples since they seem less juicy to me.

But that would explain why I didn't have it a few weeks ago when I was still using up all the apples off my tree, interesting.

if the apples dont work i use Mylanta effervescent, just drop a tab into some water wait till it dissolves ad drink slowly..

I have also had terrible heartburn pretty much throughout my pregnancy. It gets so bad that I still occasionally vomit. ): I've heard the 'your baby will have lots of hair' thing before and I'm starting to think that if that is true, I'm having a monkey. hehe. I hate taking anything right now but I keep my tums handy at all times. I'm going to try the granny smith apple thing that generva suggested. Anything would be nice if it helped .
