9-month-old baby's skin turning yellow?
By leftAndGone 2 Years, 5 Months Ago
Hi all,

I am sure I am forgotten here now, since I haven't been on this forum for a long awhile, busy struggling with work and family. But I'm sure you ladies will still be nice enough to help me and answer my questions.

My 9-month-old son, Drake, was born with Jaundice, and he was treated soon after birth. His real skin color showed and was sort of pale like his dad, by the way, his dad is Irish/Scottish and I'm Chinese, so we weren't too surprised by his light skin color and honey blond hair.

However, lately, his skin color starts turning yellow, not all over his body, mostly it is his legs and face. Sometimes he still looks pale. I am getting a little weird out by this change of skin tone, because I know that baby's eye colors may change over time, but never heard of skin color can change too. I did some research online and found that Beta-carotene can turn baby's skin color to orange-yellow. But I am wondering if this is normal that the colors show mostly on legs and face.

Did this happen to your children? Did it go away?

Take him to the doctor straight away cos to me that does not sound normal, if his skin was to change colour because of ethnicity it would be an all over skin change not a partial.... It could be a liver problem or his jaundice could be coming back which I think has mainly to do with the liver function aswell.... I wouldn't risk it personally I would take my child to my GP first thing in the morning if it was me.....

Woah, now I am scared. We have a doctor appointment tomorrow for 9 month check up. I will sure ask the doctor about this condition.

Thanks for answering.

I didn't wanna scare you so I am sorry for that but I would deffinately be concerned, but I did just remember tho, my cousin years ago when she had a baby girl, she would have been about 9-12 months old and she had a bizzare obsession with carrots and started going orange not yellow so unless he eats alot of raw carrot then yeah I would be concerned and get a GP to check him over

We feed him with a mixture of peaches, carrots, sweet potatoes, bananas, apples, all in baby food format. He was fed with a lot of carrots earlier last month, not sure if that is the reason.

I don't see him being orange at the moment though, just sort of light yellow, and his skin is still lighter than mine. And his eyes are not yellow. When he had jaundice, his eyes were yellow too.

But anyways, please don't apologize, because I do think you are just trying to give me the best advice. Thank you for helping me.

Thats alright I would just hate to scare you un-neccessarily tho.... Still have a check with the doc tomorrow cos if his skin was going to change colour for normal reasons it would be an all over change as I said before, it just sounds a little strange that it is only his face and his legs.... It may be absolutely nothing to be worried about but it's better to be safe than sorry I think
