Re:IM FREAKING OUT! venting&a questions on H1N1 shot
By MorgannsMommy 2 Years, 3 Months Ago
The only time I get the flu shot is when I am pregnant. I got the regular flu shot at my OB, but they don't have H1N1.

My husband has to get the flu shot because he is a police officer; so far he has only receive the H1N1 shot.

Morgann has never had one before base on recommendations from our Pediatrician. She says the Mercury levels are too high. We tried to get her shots this year but the pediatrician doesn't have any and the health department ran out so we are out of luck.

I ended up getting both shots, the flu and H1N1 shot because I am pregnant. I was lucky because they had some, a lot of places now are all out. & yeah my dad was telling me about the swine flu emergency, thats crazy!

Not to offend, but it's crazy because it's not real. I don't know anyone with the swine flu and I hope it stays that way.

Well my aunt has swine flu/h1n1 so it is very freakin real! She is a transplant patient and can't take the meds her doctor wants her to because of the anti-rejection drugs, and can't quit taking the anti-rejection drugs because her liver will reject.

I listened to the interview on that site (Mr Mercola is an anti-vaccination crusader by the way) and went to the CDC website to see what I found, and this is what I saw...
During week 41 (October 11-17, 2009), influenza activity increased in the U.S.

4,855 (37.5%) specimens tested by U.S. World Health Organization (WHO) and National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS) collaborating laboratories and reported to CDC/Influenza Division were positive for influenza.
•All subtyped influenza A viruses being reported to CDC were 2009 influenza A (H1N1) viruses.
•The proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) was above the epidemic threshold.
•Eleven influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported. Nine of these deaths were associated with 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus infection and two were associated with an influenza A virus for which subtype is undetermined.
•The proportion of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness (ILI) was above the national baseline. All 10 regions reported ILI above region-specific baseline levels.

Mr Mercola would have us believe that they are no longer testing people for influenza, that the doctors are just saying, "Yep, you got the swine flu" without any actual proof. This is not entirely true. While some doctors will give you a "most likely" diagnosis, most will run the needed tests to identify and subtype the influenza. If your doctor just diagnoses you, request a test.

Yeah, I meant the "emergency" is not real, not the actual swine flu itself. Of course, for anyone who does catch it, that's bad, and we don't wish anyone to be sick with anything, but it still is not a national or worldwide devastating epidemic. Hope your aunt can get better soon, though. Best wishes.
