Re:SPANKING? By Witchywoman007 7 Months Ago I agree with you. We have to discipline them so they will grow up having respect for themselves and others. My grandmother spanked me as a child and we have a wonderful relationship. I love her very much, and I'm glad she disciplined me the way she did. I could have turned out a lot worse than I did.

Re:SPANKING? By silversky32 6 Months, 4 Weeks Ago Just a random fact I thought I'd throw in...Dr. Spock had 2 sons both are still alive, but his grandson took his own life. He committed suicide as a young adult. As far as spanking goes, it seriously just depends on the child. They each have their own personality and respond differently to discipline. My son is 14 and when he was a toddler I spanked him for running in the street and unbuckling his carseat while we were driving. I tried other disciplines first but because I never spanked him, it really got his attention the 2 or 3 times I did. What he was doing was dangerous. My 12 year old is devastated if you tell her your disappointed in her, or raise your voice...I never needed to spank her. My youngest (age 9) detests time outs and will sob herself to sleep if sent to her room to lay on her bed. Again never had to spank her. All 3 of them are well mannered, and a joy to be around. It is up to the parent to find what form of discipline works best for their child, follow through with it, and explain to the child why they are being disciplined. I believe their undertsanding and learning from it is what's really crucial.

Re:SPANKING? By happy2bme 6 Months, 4 Weeks Ago I agree, Silversky. I'm not saying anyone should just spank for every little thing; but done correctly and out of love, it is not wrong like some people say. And you are correct; alot of times it does depend on the child. Sometimes other things work. But I will not say that spanking a child is wrong and shouldn't be done. My parents were spanked and turned out great; I was spanked and I am a very happy person and my family is close; and I and my husband spank our child when we need to, and I know he loves us and he is a very happy child- he smiles all the time!

By mary 6 Months, 1 Week Ago Yes, I believe in spanking, however only if my child has done something very bad. My twins are 3, and they are usually well behaved, however if they are very mean of rude, I give them a spank. When at a friend, relitives, or public place and the children are mis behaving, I tell them to stop the behavior. If they continue, carry them to a room nearby, tell them why I was dissapointed in their behavior, and then lay them across my lap and give them three spanks. They learn lessons from that, and they never do it again. I resort to it when it is my last resort, and only if they are terrible.
