Nosok, that girl has a wonderful relationship with her father now. She knew she was wrong when she did what she did; but temptation got in the way like it does with many people, and she gave in instead of standing strong. Now she is happily married (to a wonderful man, not to her then boyfriend, who later cheated on her); that has been years ago when that happened. But, if her father had not stopped things from happening and layed down some rules, she may not be where she is today.

Nonny, that is most certainly not the right response. Well that is not completely true. If you are trying to alienate your son then by all means condem his actions and make him choose between his girlfriend and his family, otherwise just have an open discusion and make sure that he knows that you are happy to discuss any sexual issues that he might have. He may be more mature than you think. I know it is hard o watch your kids grow up but it happens. and im sorry Nonny but you are actively wrong..

for anyone that needs a good way to explain sex in a simple way to young childeren this is what we have used for years: ( you may want to start by adding that when a man and a lady really love eachother the do something together so that they can have a baby)so it starts like this: all the daddy's and boys have a dinkle, willy, (whatever they call it.)and to make a baby he put's his dinkle into a special hole in all the mummy's and girls in the world. The man try's to do a wee wee but some special slime( if you want to call it sperm then you can ) comes out, the slime swims to a little egg inside the mummy and that egg grow's into a baby which comes out of the mummys special hole. Hope that was helpful! that's all it takes to satisfy a young child's mind trust me, and the older the child get's adapt the story and use more appropiate languge.

I think being 16 hes old enough to know what hes doing, you like it or not. And what does this have to do with the fact that "katie seemed like such a nice girl"? Nice and kind girls dont have sex? Teenagers nowaday know everything there is to know about protected sex, just make sure they use such thing. THe thing i disagree to, though, is them having sex at a family gathering, that is just not polite and i think its disrespectful, so you should have to talk about it with him.

I don't have my own children yet, so I can't directly relate to your experience. But I was 16 when I became sexually active with my highschool sweet heart.

What you think, and what you personally would have done/did do yourself matters little to your son. I know it must be traumatizing and shocking to not only have found it out, but personally discovered it yourself. But you have had the safe sex talk with him, and hopefully he and his girlfriend are both smart enough to engage with each other safely.

You should let him know that your aware of it happening. Don't tell him that you walked in, but just let him know that you do. Have a long think about the things you'd like to say to him, because often emotions can get in the way. Try to avoid getting angry, or making any rash decisions that could cause your son to act against your wishes. Make sure everything is happening safely, let him know if your upset about it happening in your house, and anything else you wish to say to him, all in a calm manner. Do ask if the girls parents know, and if she plans to talk with them about it at all. I don't believe it's your place to tell them personally, unless you believe that they are acting unsafely and could be taking drastic risks.

When I began having sex, I didn't talk to my mum because I knew she would react badly. She had done everything right as a mum, talked to me about safety, encouraged me to wait until I was of legal age atleast, ect, but she just wasn't ready to deal with it. I had personally waited until I was ready, and I don't regret it for a second. What i do regret is not being able to go to my mother like I would have liked, and I felt dishonest. It wasn't until I went away on holiday's with my boyfriend when I finished school that she faced it.

I'd also like to say, my now fiancée and I have been together for about 10 years. He's the only man I've ever been with, and unlike what SOME previous posters have said, we did not break up shortly after becoming sexually active. Everyone is different, not everything is right for everybody.
