I agree with Puck on the autism research that's available. I work with autistic kids in my classroom, and amongst teachers there is a general belief that its a combination of things. Plastic bottles do release BPA into the formula and you can buy bottles without it now. In all reality you shouldn't heat formula in the microwave in a bottle to begin with. It can cause hot spots that will burn the baby, and there were problems with some bottles actually exploding after being heated in the microwave. If you are using glass bottles then make sure you are the one holding the bottle as the baby gets older, because they do break if thrown or dropped. My cousin has a glass eye because she ran with one and fell on it when she was about 2 years old. Use common sense and do some research. Then do what makes you comfortable.

Do your research but I don't believe that plastic bottles can cause autism. If you are going to buy plastic bottles then purchase the Born Free bottles.

Okay yay! someones asking a question about autism, I run a center for autistic children. I actually have heard that about plastic bottles and autism BUT I personally think that's false but as we all know there are many little "rumors" or false ideas of the recent spike in diagnoses of autism.

But a lot of those plastic bottles have a chemical in plastic that if heated can make your baby sick.

There have been so many theories as to why there are so many children diagnosised with Autism or on the Autistic Spectrum , I can't keep up .

My oldest son will turn this month . He has been diagnosised with PDD-NOS { Pervasive Development Disorder - Not other Specified}, which in a nutshell means he's ' quirky ' but does not meet the criteria for Autism , yet he's on the ' spectrum ' .

I personally feel he has a compromised immune system( He has many ear infections between 3 and 18 mos ) that could not handle the shot regimen set back in the mid to late 90's . The shots Hunter recieved contained thermisol . I also feel there is a genetic component . My 8 year old son has not been effected . I spread his shots out , would not allow 3 shots at one visit or even 2 shots at one visit. I had to request shots that were thermisol free ( which back in 1999-2000 , not all shot were thermisol free as they are today ) .

As for the bottle theory , I can't comment on that . I breastfed and bottle fed both of my sons . One has PDD-NOS , the other was sparred .

Wow, it is amazing what some people will believe! Like the others have said, you do want to make sure your plastic bottles are BPA free. I use the playtex drop in liners and they are garunteed to be completely safe and BPA free. What I love about them is that they have ALWAYS been this way, even before all the plastic bottle maddness hit. No one knows what causes autism, that is what is so scary about it. I beleive it is a huge combo of pollutants we are exposed to now without even knowing it. Microwaving or heating in plastic is never a good idea if the plastic in bicarbonate plastic. Look for polypropolene whenever possible (or teflon plastic which is what the drop ins are made of and NO it is not the same as teflon on your pans!) I don't even reheat food in plastic, I use glass whenever possible. The glass bottles are nice and safe, but a big pain in the butt! If you ever hear anyone say that anything directly causes autism or ADD or anything else, just know that they don't know what they are talking about. Good luck with baby!!

Just to let everyone know it was only a question! Just because i asked to see if any1 has heard this doesn't mean i believe it! I have heard about the BPA free bottles and all that i looked into that. I think my friend was misinform about autism and BPA and got them confused some how. I'd like to thank everyone who has responded.
