Feeding baby food early
By stephmygurls 3 Months, 2 Weeks Ago
my daughter is 9wks old and only weighs 8lbs 14ozs. We are trying to get her to gain weight. She eats cereal and it doesn't seem to help. I was wondering if anyone has given their child baby jar food at and early age and how it turned out. I gave my first child jar food at 3 months but she got it only because she was eating everything in sight..... If anyone has a comment I would greatly appreciate it....

Thanks
Steph

Your safest bet for the baby is to check with the pediatrician. Every child is different. Some eat early, some not. But please, check with them.

Just my advice. In my case, I had to be very careful about introducting food to my sons, as I have very many allergies. See, I have Celiac Disease, as well as am Lactose Intolerant. So I breast fed by 3 sons till they were 22 months old. I introduced Rice Cereal first. Then slowly added vegetables later, then fruit. Then meat, for my guys. Absolutely no pasta. I took alot of notes, on a daily basis, as to the response my guys had to new foods. I did not introduce 2 new foods a day, at first. If something made them sick, I noticed. Even, when I was pregnant, and would have more stomach upset, I documented it. The baby is talking to you, even before it is born. Each child of mine had different food choices, and still do.

At 3 months, you should have met with your pedeo already. What did he/she say about the weight gain issue. Are you currently breastfeeding, or using formula. Be very careful introducing foods to your little one. Thats just my imput for you. Hope it helps.

You should check with your pediatrition. Here is what my doctor told me about feeding solids.

Excusive breastfeeding for 4 to 6 months (or formula); then continue breastfeeding (formula) and start cereals mixed with breast milk (formula), one new cereal a week once and then twice a day; rice, barley, wheat, oatmeal but not mixed cereals like with banana or anything like that. Next is veggies once a day with continued breast feeding (formula), one new veggie a week and it was a certain kinds of veggies at first like carrots, sweet potatoes, etc. and not green beans and the like until later. Once we made it through all the veggies came fruits, one new fruit a week but I don't remember if it was certain kinds of fruits first or not. Then last was meats, one new meat a week until she had tried everything with out an allergic reaction. Then we could start on the mixed things like the mixed cereals and veggies with meat etc. We never really did the desserts and puddings because there was too much sugar.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your input. I am feeding formula and she has been on cereal since 4wks. She has a Heart condition and is on several medications. The Cardio Pedi told me to give her cereal it helps to hold the medicine in her tummy (she vomitts from it). That's the problem with the weight gain, she is 10wks and barely hit 8lbs.. Especially the last 2wks she's dropped a few ozs. I thought maybe some simple jar food like bananas or apples might be ok, maybe she would welcome a bottle with some taste and not all that nasty medicaiton. Don't miss-understand me, I don't wanna throw her corn, beans, meat etc... just a little bit to help her...

Thanks again!!!

I would say continue the formula/cereal until 4 to 6 mo. and not start anything else ,veggies / fruits, until 6 to 8 months. The less things a baby is exposed go prior to 6 months the better it is for there immune system, allergies, brain, and they may get sick less offten (ear infections, diarea, constipation, etc.)

Good Luck, I hope every thing works out.
