it doesnt matter who is happy about it as long as you are. if they cannot be gracious enough to accept it and be happy about the fact that someone will be there whether its them or not, then they are not true friends.

I dont think Godparents have to be a couple. Where I am from I guess it is not just who gets the child on the parents passing, as this is not that likely to happen in most cases, but rather who will be able to guide the child through their life. My Godparents.. especially my Godmothers were very instrumental in shaping me into the strong woman i am today.So I guess you can consider who willnot only love and care for your kids best if something should happen, but who you can most rely on for support as you raise your child. Who do you see them guiding them best if your child turns to them for help.
I agree with puck, it is not about your friends. If they are real friends they will be pseudo auntie and uncles and love the child regardless.

I personally dont like the idea of Godparents because theres no legal documention of it plus I just dont like it but I will put in my WILL that my son and future children will go to my mother and father and yes they are still pretty young and I know they will be raised the way I want him to be (because its the way my parents raised me) Plus that way I dont have to tell anyone (except my parents of course) who my child will go to and there wont be any hurt feeling at all because I dont not at all want my hubbys family to get my son!

John (the oldest his are my aunt Linda & uncle Michael on my dads side)
Katie ( my aunt Mary & uncle Chris on my moms side)
Patrick (im blanking but its an aunt & uncle)
Me (my aunt Mary & uncle Chris)
Joey (blanking again)
Kevin (my 2nd younger brother his are my moms best friend Janice & oldest brother John)
Danny (blanking sorry!)
Mary Clare (John my oldest brother & Katie my oldest sister)

so i cant remember half of them but all of them are aunts uncles siblings or close family friends
