Re:pacifier or not to pacifier ????????

Oh I just meant the way everyone has an opinion about whether breast milk is better than formula. Yes, it is the perfect food for a baby, and yes you should give it a go. However, for some women it just isn't always possible or the best choice. Yet, alot of people are quick to jump on the band wagon and criticize a woman for not breast feeding. The pacifier argument is very similar and ends up polarizing people at one extreme or the other. Basically in all cases common sense is best. Most of us want what's best for our children and do all we can for them, and we should learn to respect that we don't all do everything the same. So make the choices you feel are right for your child, talk to your doctor, and do independent research, then decide.

Hi i'm a mother of a two year old and i never had wanted my child to have a pacifier. It makes the child depend on it and you can have yourself and the child a hard time adjusting to when you have to take it away. When i was in the hospital with my son I had thought i would never let him have one and i didn't and he is fine. He doesn't even suck his thumb. We gave him the bottle up to 10 months then a sippy cup. Oh and another thing that helped was the book what to expect during the first year. That was a big help and answered all my questions.

Hi,
We are truly only experts on our own children. Reading your child's needs should come first.
My daughter would not take a pacifier. She needed braces. She was off the bottle long before age 2.
Our son did take a pacifier. He needed no braces. Also off the bottle long before age 2.
Rocking, music, walking, bouncing, swings, car rides and pacifiers are all ways that are used to 'pacify' babies and toddlers. Yet, it's only using pacifiers that get frowned on. Why wouldn't it help when a baby's teeth are coming in or when they are sick? I see no harm in using a pacifier to soothe a baby. Haven't you rubbed your gums when your teeth hurt? I know I have. If it comforts them, use it.
I've never yet seen a child at the 3 year old pre-school class come in with a pacifier.
I agree with silversky32, use moderation. Bottom line, do what works and what you think is best.
