Teething?
By happy2bme 3 Years, 8 Months Ago
My son has been real clingy to me lately. He comes running to me calling "mama" and hangs around my legs and wants me to hold him. I have been feeling of his gums, which have been really swollen; I think he is trying to cut all of his molars at one time- the first one broke through yesterday. Do you think his being clingy is related to the teething?

Oh yea, they get very clingy when they are cutting teeth. Just give him some Childrens Tylenol and something to chew on!

I think it is more related to his age. My daughter is getting the same way, she is 19 mo. today. I think at this age they start to realize what it means when you leave and wonder if you will come back. If he keeps a hold of you all the time then you can't leave him. Maybe try and do exercises were you leave and come back like hide an seek or something similar. My daughter likes to wave bye bye so telling her she gets to wave bye bye distracts her from realizing I'm leaveing. Also, I have often left her in one room and told her "Mommy will be right back", then exit to another room for a moment and come back. I think she now understand what "Mommy will be right back" means and sometimes (but not always) it will stop or hinder her crying or clinging. Hope this helps.

happy2bme thank you for your post, i can relate to you 100%!

My daughter has been the same now for the past 2-3wks, she too is teething but i dont see any cutting through just yet- im too wondering if she is going to get them all as she didnt get her first tooth until she was about 11mths old.
I cant go anywhere without her wanting to be held. If i leave the room she will cry, when i come back after a few minutes she clings onto my legs, if were out shopping she will only go to me and not daddy, if im sat down she clings onto my legs so i sit her with me (if i do all this she is fine)
I keeping telling myself its only because she is teething but at the back of my mind i keep thinking it is something i have done to make her this way!?

How old is your son Happy2bme?
