Re:Circumcision? (1 viewing) (1) Guest
Circumcision? By CariannDS 4 Months, 3 Weeks Ago I have been debating for a long time whether or not to bring up this issue because I knew it could potentially be a controversial one.
Luckily my husband and I had a daughter for your first child because we do not agree on the issue of circumcision. I am against circumcising and he is for it. I believe circumcising is an unnecessary procedure that puts the baby at risk for infection and injury. I would like to tell you what my husband believes but he really won’t even tell me. He says he just wants it. When we were interviewing our pediatrician’s one of the questions we asked them was about whether to circumcise. The first one said it should be the Dad’s decision, which I think is totally bogus because just because our child is a boy dose not make him any less my child or make my opinions and decisions any less valid. The second one gave us a text book answer that kept him totally neutral. The third one, our pediatrician, didn’t do interviews and since we had a girl we never asked. I asked my OBGYN about it also. She said with her first child they didn’t even ask her they just did it. With her second son, whom she had at 45, she said no. Her son is 5 or 6 now and she said we have had no issues with it. She said he asked about it once, why he and Daddy were different, and they explained it and he was fine. She also told me most doctors do not circumcise their children because they know it is an unnecessary procedure. She also said that most of her patients do circumcise. It also can depend on where you live. Out in California there is a lot less snipping going on, but where I live it is pretty common to circumcise. We also brought this issue up with family, which I really need to learn not to do that, because they were all for circumcision and against me. I have two nephews and of course they are circumcised. My sister-in-law said that if it wasn’t a necessary procedure then it wouldn't be covered by insurance. She had me with that one I didn’t know how to respond. But she brings up a good point. With all of the escalating healthcare costs why do insurance companies pay for circumcisions when they are unnecessary? Just think of how much money they would save ever year. Would any of that saving get passed down to us? Anyway, sorry this is such a long post. Guess I am venting a bit. To be honest I am mostly looking for people to agree with me on this issue (just say no to the snip snip), but I am interested in everyone’s opinion. If you thing I'm off my rocker feel free to let me know. So, to circumcise or not to circumcise, that is the question? Thanks for your time. Last Edit: 2008/07/01 12:47 By CariannDS.

Re:Circumcision? By HL1 4 Months, 3 Weeks Ago Well I do agree with you. My doctor brought it up after we had our first son and he told me that it is not necessary to circimcise any more that it is more for religious reasons. We did not circumcise either one of our boys. I think that it is not necessary to do, why cause pain of your child when it is not necessary any more to circumcise. This is my opinion.
Hope this helps you out CariannDS

By Sarah 4 Months, 3 Weeks Ago I have to thank you for this post. Im having twin boys and i've never even considered the issue. Im definately going to discuss this with the doctor and my husband. Honestly i have no idea where i stand on the issue. I dont want to cause them pain but i dont know if its really necessary. Im going to have to do my research and probably ask several doctors. Its better that we make a well informed decsion prior to their birth then wait and have someone make the decision for us. Thanks.

By puck 4 Months, 3 Weeks Ago in canada it is not covered, because it is not medically necessary. is your husband snipped? if so then maybe he wants his son to look like daddy. mine isnt and thats his reason for not wanting it, which is good because id have said no anyway.
