Okay, everyone...

I have sort of a 2 in 1 thing going on here as you must have noticed from the title..What that means is I have two completely random questions in one post. The reason I didn't just do two separate posts is because I didn't feel it was necessary when you can just give me two answers in one. Here are my questions:

1) Do you think that the parents should get to choose what the kids call their grandparents? Why or why not? What do your kids call your parents? What did you call you grandparents? Why did you call them that?

2) Why do you like this forum? I figure that if I present these answers to Alan and Irene it might be a good thing to put on the home page, for newcomers to see why moms enjoy visiting the site.

Thanks! :)

1) No i think it should be natural, i called grandma and grandpa to my grandparents, my children called my parents gradma Mimi (her name was Marie Anne) and grnadpa Mo (i don't know where that came from as my fathers name was Ronald)and my grandchildren call me grandma Bella and Grandpa Gerry to my husband.

2) I'm new here but i really love names, i love to help the others and it's always nice to have someone to talk to, this forum has everything i love.

Interesting that this questions pops up again. I think it was the first question of yours Claire, that I responded to.

Now, that I have my grandbaby - my son refers to me as "Gramma Lulu"
I will have to wait a while thought, for Rylee to figure out what name to call me, but I can hardly wait for her to voice her decision.

1) I call my grandparents on my dads side Papa & Grammy & my step grandmother is Grandma Susan she used to get upset because we used to just call her Susan & on my moms side we called them (both passed away) Meima (pronounced ME-Ma) & Poppo (Pa-Poo) for both my oldest brother the first grandchild on both sides named them in that sense & thats what everyone calls them

2) I found it on an advertisment on another of my favorite sites & ive been here ever since!

My dad was adopted so I have a few sets of grandparents so here goes:

my mums parents; nan and gunter

my great grandparents (my mums side); ormi and orpa

my dads adoptive parents; grandma and grandpa

my dads real parents; nana and poppy bob (not my dad's real dad)

my dads real dad; pa graeme

my great grandparents (my dads real side); great nan and pop cantrill

We met my dads real parents and grandparents when i was 8 years old so it was weird having these new relatives and learning what to call them but out of respect we called them what they suggested and it stuck! I think its good to have names differ with either sets of grandparents to differenciate between them. my partner calls both of his mum and dads mothers 'nan' so the one they see the least ends up being 'other nan' which i think disappoints her a bit.

i came here as even though im not even close to having children i am fascinated by names and the trends and new names i've never heard of.
