Here's my answer

1. I've always called my grandparents of my daddys side Abuelita and Tata. And from my mother's side Mummi and Ukki (Grandma and Grandpa)
I haven't never actually thought why I call them like that. I don't know. I have 7 years older big sister so I guess I've learned that from her. I'd love to know though!

2. I came to this site accidentally, I've always loved names. Especially those names what people use in America and England. And I've met very nice people and all these mothers here gave me just a new reason to wanting to be a mommy by myself! Thanks Alan and Irene. This is the best babyname site in the internet

I think that you should have some choice in what you want to be called when i had my daughter i asked all the grandparents what they wanted and that was the way it was. you could have a little pull in that decision anyway once the baby begins to speak by using the name you like.

Sometimes names come on us accidentally. when wee ones cannot say Grandpa and it comes out Papa. Or Gammy. My brother had a babysitter mrs Morton, for him, that was too large a mouthfull and it came out Mum-Mum. Fro then on, she was Mum-Mum.
My eldest sister could not say Grandma Morefield(why she was even being taught that is beyond me, lol) it came out Mo-Mo. All of us younger siblings followed suit, and she from then on was always referred to as Mo-Mo.
In my previous post I said how I am called Nana, and for 15 years I have been Nana.Well, I had not seen my 6 grandsons for 6 years, so the younger three only know me thru phone calls and gifts. I went there recently and apparently before I got there a couple of the boys asked what they call me, or my daughter was explaining that I was her mother, which makes me their grandma(which is what they call their paternal grandma). So, a couple of them called me grandma while there. I looked questioning at my daughter, and she said she thought that she would leave it up to them. This is te same daughter that went from calling her Grandma Ma-Maw to grandma.
Anyway, when alone with the kids, if they called me Grandma, I would nicely ask them if they preferred being called Zach or Zachary, greg or Gregory, etc, and when they would tell me, I would say that I preferred Nana. They totally got it!
No hard feelings, just letting them know my preference.
In reality....it doesn't matter. they could call me dirt and i would love them all to pieces. HAHA!!

1) I called my grandparents Nanny and Ganky and so did my brother and sister and my cousins and my parents are also called that to, it is something that is always passed down through the family. I no it's funny but we enjoy.

2) I accidently stumbled across it when i was looking for a name for my youngest son now 7months and i thought that maybe i would join, im addicted now it's so fun to have somewhere to go and just be yourself without other people judging you and talk about the best you have in life "your children". It's so nice how others help others and it is a real community full of real people that share the same intrests as you.
