I've never held a baby.....
By Ryan 3 Months, 3 Weeks Ago
hi again
I was recently thinking and then a thought popped in my head, I'VE NEVER HELD A BABY BEFORE! I've held 2 years olds and up but never actually a baby baby. I was 2 and 3 when my brothers were born so I really never got to hold them. I've never held a newborn and I don't know anyone who has a newborn, how am I supposed to know how to hold one?
Natalia and I got this free birth video (it was pretty intense) and we watched it and the dad gets to hold the baby, how am I supposed to know how to do that I wouldn't want to hurt my baby?!?!?!?!?!
Oh and how does that whole cutting the cords thing go? peace love and thanks,Ryan

every father thinks they're going to break the baby. its so funny. all you really need to remember is to support the head. it's 1/3 of their weight when they're born, and they cannot hold it up themselves til around 3 months. as for cutting the cord its best to wait until its done pulsing, so the babys done using it. then the doctor will show you where to cut. dont worry, it doesnt hurt the baby. then it gets clamped, and thats that until it heals and the stump falls off. and if youre feeling really adventurous, you could ask about catching the baby as he/she comes out. my husband caught our son with some help and guidance from the doctor, and it was the most wonderful experience for him. good luck with your baby, theyre not as breakable as the look.

But how do you know your doing it right. I don't want to hurt her or get nervous and shake too much.
Newborns are really small right?
Like 6lbs or something?

they vary in size a bit. my first was 7p11oz, my second was 2p4oz(at 27 weeks), my third was 9p5oz. if youre not sure of how to hold them exactly, a doctor or nurse will show you. its awkward at first, but you become comfortable with it very quickly. if your that worried about it maybe you could start out sitting down and someone hand the baby to you.

My husband was the same way. He had held babies before, but never liked to because it made him too nervous. So he was nervous when I was pregnant as to how he would be with holding our son. But when our son was born, it just came natural with it being his own baby. He got used to holding him right away and picked him up all the time and helped me with him and didn't think anything about it. So it will probably be the same once your baby gets here.
