Exercising During Pregnancy
By AJ3 2 Years, 3 Months Ago
Hi All, I'm Amiee and new to the board... 24 weeks pregnant and have always been a keen runner.... I am still running at this stage but have been recommended by my doc to cut down considerably... This has hit me hard and I was wondering what exercises you have tried during your pregnancy if any at all and your views on it????
Thank You

Get the book "What to expect when you're exepcting" and read it like a bible. Written by doctors, this book states that running is ok as long as you were running to begin with. Do not ride horses, ski, or any others from a fairly short list. I'm not a runner, but fast walking is great, as are aerobics, step-aerobics, dance, (some) pilates, etc. Let your body tell you what you can do. I'm 30 weeks now and can absolutely NOT do my yoga. However I've seen dvd's for pregnant yoga. Best wishes.

Once you get to around the 30 week mark is usually when doctors tell you to start taking it easy so that you don't go into premature labor. During my pregnancy I went for brisk walks and did a pregnancy yoga video. Although by the time I hit 30 weeks I wasn't really in the mood to do much, it took alot of effort just to make myself go for walks due to back and joint pain so kudos to you for keeping up running! There are usually different kinds of aerobic/yoga type classes for pregnant women at your local leisure centre so maybe see what is offered in your area. Your body will let you know though if you are pushing yourself too much.

Hi, basically you dont your body temp to rise too much. So you might consider less anaerobic exercise & start to lean toward to something like Body Balance(Les Mills). Its a mixture of yoga, palates & tai chi. This is my 3rd preg & i did it up until i was over due!! You raise your heart rate sufficiently to get a sweat up, without raising the body temp too much. What to Expect While Expecting is fairly old now, not my cup of tea. Check out some other books & see what suits you
