Re:So how painful is it By pouse 1 Month, 3 Weeks Ago Well I haven't had my baby yet, but based on what everyone has told me its like shoving out a bowling ball, and if your really lucky you could actually end up breaking a hip, or ripping all the way open (both happened to my mother's, but she had 10 to almost 11 pound babies, and I don't mean to terrify you). I was planning to go all natural, but then I was worried about not being able to take the pain. My one friend said no to an epi when she got to the hospital and by the time she wanted one wasn't allowed since she was all the way dilated. My mother actually asked for painkillers about half way through and was told it was too late. So I would recommend knowing what she wants to do, and asking the dr about what time they will refuse to give you anything just in case it doesn't work out. I know people who go in wanting all natural and end up taking something for it, and it doesn't mean they're weak by any standards. Childbirth is probably the most painful thing she will ever have to endure, but in the end you go home with cute little babies, and pretty much everything else seems to matter a lot less after that.
BTW my hubby is in almost the same boat as you (he's a tattoo artist) I was told I couldn't hold his right hand because I can't break it or mess it up at all. So my suggestion to you would be to let her hold the hand that isn't quite as important (which is rather difficult since you use both for guitar) but if there is one you could use even though its broken let her grab that one. Also some drs will cast your hand in such a manner that you could still play (depending on how its broken) but not all of them. Good luck, and I really didn't mean to scare you guys I was just sharing what everyone has told me about it.
