To be honest, I don't really know how to judge my son if he is talking or not. He has been making sounds that sound like words ever since 2 months old, that was when his dad put him on the weight scale, he screamed "help!" Then he had been making a lot of "help" sounds ever since, and one time he said "Help me!" Gosh, aren't we that bad of parents?!

He does amazingly seem to mimic some words we speak in Chinese, on many occasions, but he doesn't do it repeatedly on the same word, so I guess those were just coincidences. For more solid word-like sounds, he has been saying a lot of "dada" and "daddy" since around 5 to 6 months. Then he said "dada" in the tone that means "hitting" in Chinese. In Cantonese, we have 9 tones for every pronunciation, like the sound "da" will have all 9 different tones that each means completely different things. The tone he uses is the one for "hitting." Then just in this month (he is now 9 months old) he finally says "Mama" and "Nana." Whenever I say "Mama" he repeats after me. So what is the exact time should I consider as the time he starts talking? Is he even considered as talking yet?

For walking, well, he is cruising now, sort of, in his own crib. He pulls himself up and starts reaching stuffs nearby by moving along the edge of the crib. If the object is too far away, he will fall on the mattress and crawls to the closest spot, then pull himself up to reach it because that's faster. But I haven't tested him on a solid ground yet, because we don't have enough space here for him to do it safely.

Hmm...I guess my son is within normal range. He is probably not exceptionally bright or quick, but happily developing.

My daughter started talking at 9 or 10 months and she started walking at 15 months.
