Putting my cousin in Special Ed!
By AlyssaShayne 2 Years, 5 Months Ago
Well I was at my grandma's and she was talking to my aunt Amy going on and on about my cousin Olivia. She is 5 and is starting kindergarden, and her school has them come in a couple weeks early to examine her or something. Apparently they talked to her alone for a few minutes and that was it. Then my aunt got something in the mail from the school last week, but she just opened it up a couple days ago and it says they are putting Olivia in special ed!! She couldn't believe it! Neither can I, if I was my aunt I would be furious, I mean what kind of morons are running that place. Oh, and by the way Olivia is in no way disabled mentally or physically in any way! She is a completely normal five year old who is very hyper and imaginative. But how many aren't? For one thing Olivia seems very smart to me. She's really creative, she could pick up a pen and a pencil, and make up an entire story about one being the momma, and one's the baby and she's in trouble cause she was being bad, and so on and so on.

I hope Amy straightens things out!

Alyssa

I would personally want a full explanation of the reasons behind putting my child in "special ed" classes rather than be told in a letter I think that is pure evil grrrrrr Then I would blast the absolute shite outta the school once they gave me their reason and instantly take my child to another school for a second opinion and "WHEN" that second opinion proves me right get it in writting then personally shove that piece of paper up the first school principals ass and walk off happy

But seriously get a second opinion from another school hun

shucks.. oh tell your aunt to find another school or something. No school should place a child like that without an explanation!

good luck!!

That may be the very reason behind them putting her in the "special ed". I'm not vindicating the school by any means. They should explain every single little detail to why they are doing that. And that should have been done in a meeting in person, not through a letter. But I do know that some very hyper children have really bad attention spans. She may not have paid them any attention while she was in there with them, and they may have deemed her "slow" because of it. Which in my opinion is completely wrong.

My school tried to do the same thing to me, my mom however scared the holy shit out of them, and I was quickly placed in regular classes. I have ADHD, which is an actual learning disorder if not treated properly. Mine could be treated by changing my diet, some kids actually need medication. I grew up healthy and normal and eventually grew out of the hyperness on some occasions. I'm almost betting my son has it too.

your aunt should go talk with the person that wrote the letter. and find another school and ask for a 2 opinion.
and what the __ someone talks to a 5 year old alone and then write a letter saying that. the first time that I went to talk with someone alone was for my college interview.

if the kid has a problem is the teacher of the class that inform the parents and then they'll find the best thing to do with her.

First there could be a clerical error and it's another student that is being put in Special Ed.

And second your relative can go in and insist that her child be mainstreamed into a regular class room. She might have to sign some papers saying that is what she wants but they have to do what the parent wants.

When my daughter completed kindergarten years ago they wanted to hold her back, well I would have no such thing she had, had some hearing problems during the year. We had found out that she needed tubes in her ears and then her hearing much improved, so I was sure she would do fine if she moved onto 1st. grade and she did. I had to sign a waiver and they moved her up.

Hope this helps.
