My mum and his mum and father all said that they don't like the name Kai. They said it's too girly, not the Gabriel part but the name Kai. We're devastated! His father said that we should choose a proper Scottish one, one that was actually used and not found on a baby name site. He doesn't think it's really Scottish.

My hubby wants to ditch it but I really love it! He wants Alec, Jamie or Quin. I'm thinking of modernising it and making it Jamie-River, does anyone like it?

Jamie River sounds good. But it's your choice and your child. What if you swapped the name around to Gabriel Kai?

I REALLY like Jamie-River, but the names up to you. I also like Kai, and if you like it, I think you should use it. Remember, YOUR the one having the baby, not you parents. though don't get me wrong, it's important to consider there opinion, but your the one who will be your child every day, and be using on a regular basis. so make sure whatever you chose, you actually want.

Gabriel's our friend's name and we don't want it as a first name only a middle. If we swapped it around there would still be the problem of there not being a 'proper' Scottish name. Mike wants to change it aswell so I'm the only one who doesn't which isn't fair on everyone else.

Thanks, I really like it aswell but Kai was perfect to me.. Ah well: looks like I've got little "Jamie-River Gabriel McGaan" in my belly now! LOL it's fine, compromise is all part of life!

Are you going to keep looking up more names that are Scottish? It's good to have a compromise in place, but you have time to keep looking, right? That's what I would do up until the last possible second, if necessary. Good luck!
