one of my friends did this: she stayed at home with both of her boys and set a timer. everytime it went of she set them on the toilet until they went potty. it only took a week and they both learned.

kels, how old were her boys? my son is 17 months and i was just wondering if it's too early to start with him. i have his potty chair out for him to sit on to get him used to it. he has gone a couple of times when i sat there with him for a long time, but i don't think he knows what he's doing right now.
kaylyn, is your child a girl or boy? for a boy i have heard of putting cheerios in the potty and letting them aim for it also you can give them some kind of treat every time they use the potty- i have heard of mothers doing that and it working. also, when i get more serious about training my son, i plan to use training pants during the day instead of pull-ups because i think pull-ups feel like diapers and the training pants will make them feel wet and they won't like how it feels.

I introduced my son to the potty chair at about 18 months just to get him used to it, but he could have cared less about it. At 2 years old I got him a step stool and a little seat that plugs in to the regular seat. He had watched his dad so when it came to peeing he wanted to stand, and for number 2 he wanted to sit on the big potty. I used the Cheerios trick and he thought trying to sink them was great, just don't leave the box on the counter and walk out of the room. I had a family size box of cheerios in my toilet lol. I also used training pants at home instead of pull ups. He was trained completely, day and night, in about a week.

Hiya,my only advice is just to make it fun, then your child will be more willing to use it,try giving rewards every time he/she uses it on their own or with help,so they associate going on the potty as something fun.

happy2bme, i'm not sure how old her children were. but i would probably wait a few more months. my nephew started training at about 21-22 months. i think the older they are, the more they understand.
