ATT: doctors or midwives or anyone who can help..

Ok first off let me say sorry if this is too much information...

When you have your baby they tell you in the weeks after birth while your are bleeding you may "pass" a chunk of placenta..

My daughter is 11 months old, and i believe i had the above happen this morning. Is that possible for it to happen that long after birth?? it was a bit smaller than the size of an egg..

Im really irregular, only getting my period about twice or so a year, so i didnt know if that had anything to do with it??

Sorry again!
If you know anything let me know!!

thanks!

I am not a doctor or midwife, but I have never heard that before. It sounds like it was a large clot to me, especially if your not regular. Your uterius sheds it's lining everytime you have a period, I can't image something staying in there for 11 months. Hope this helps.

Ih your doctor told you that you may pass a piece of placenta, i would sue that doctor. The placenta comes out at birth and if it isn't totally whole, the doctor is supposed to go fishing for any pieces. This is to prevent hemorrhage in the first place, and infection from the placenta chunk putrifying in your uterus in the second place. Now you may pass large clots as the uterus gets back to normal.

What I think you are experiencing right now is what I call a Revenge Bleed. Your body needs to clean itself out once in a while, and if you have not had a period in a while, there is a lot of junk to clean out. You will pass a bunch of clots in various sizes (some that you will look at and have a WTF moment). The bleeding may be heavy. If you are soaking more than one tampon or pad in an hour, you need to go to the hospital. Also, sad to say, watch for anything fetus like just in case this is a miscarried pregnancy.

Thanks Guys..
This definately wasnt a clot.. Iv had that happen several times... It was like chicken breast.. (sorry its the best way i can describe it)

Several doctors told me you may lose a small piece of placenta..
But i didnt think it was possible for it too happen this long after birth..

So im off to the doctor this week, hopefully they can shed some light on it..

I bloodclot can be like a hunk of meat. I had one come out of my nose after a nusebleed that was the size of a chicken nugget. It was very gross and very well formed. It usually happens when something blocks the flow of blood for a bit and allows it to clot in a large quantity.

I am not sure what is wrong with your doctors but the placenta shoudl be cleared from your body within 30 minutes after birth or you are risking hemorrhage (my mom hemmed with me because of a missed chunk). This is not even something that is debated. It is why they examine the placenta and why they encourage your uterus to contract even after the baby comes out.

If I were you the next time it happeneds you should keep it and bring it to your doctor they can send it away for testing if the doctor doesn;'t know what it is or whats going on...my sister would cough up blood all growing up,,they ruled out cancer,,they still dont know what was wrong with her,,so the docotor told her to keep what she coughed up and freez it and bring it in at her next doctors apt,,It is NOT a piece of your placenta,,they HAVE TO make sure that all comes out after your child is born,,if anything that will come out id a blood clot,,i thought there was something wrong after i had my first son because i had a clot come out i did not know it was a clot i had to ask my kids dad's mom was it was,,,but 11 months after the birth of your child is NOT normal,,deffinitly go to your doctor and make sure everything is ok inside!
